GEORGETOWN, Del.- Sussex County-based Spanish-language radio station Maxima 95.3 on Friday held a radiothon at La Esperanza in Georgetown to raise money for the center.

La Esperanza provides education, workshops and immigration services to Sussex County's Hispanic community. Its mission is to "integrate Latino individuals and their families into the community through education, advocacy and support services."

La Esperanza Executive Director Rosalia Velazquez said the center hopes to raise $40,000.

"Every donation counts and makes an impact. That's the important thing," she said. 'What we want to do is give the community an opportunity to join us and making sure that we can continue providing these very critical services."

Velazquez said La Esperanza valued the support provided by Maxima radio personality Kevin Andrade and other staffers from the station.

"To have the energy that we get from Kevin and the folks that are coming in and sharing their stories because their stories are more powerful than my telling the story really means the world to us," she said. "We're very very grateful to everyone who's supported us in this process."

The radiothon is an annual event, but donations are accepted every day in person or via La Esperanza's website.
