Delaware Transit Corporation Launches Mobile Payment App for Beach Buses

Posted: Updated:

LEWES, Del. - There's a new way to pay for taking DART's buses to the beach.

All Beach Bus routes in Sussex County now accept payment through the "Token Transit" app. Riders can purchase single rides up to a 30 day pass on the app, and simply show it to the bus driver when they board.

"It speeds up boarding," Delaware Transit Corporation CEO John Sisson says. "You don't have to worry about losing it on the beach or getting it wet on the beach, or getting sand on it. "

The app is free to download and is also synced to the DelDOT app for added convenience. Sisson says using the app is a way for public transportation to stay current.

"People are carrying less cash, and they want the convenience," he tells WBOC. "They'll make a decision on how they're going to travel by convenience so if having that app gives them that convenience they might not have had before, it is the way to start working with people."

Sisson says the app is currently a pilot program until mid-September, but if it proves successful, they plan to expand it to statewide bus service next year.

"It's really cool, it's really convenient and we are really excited about it," Sisson says.
