Father and Daughter Open Unconventional Crab Shack in Berlin

Posted: Updated:

BERLIN, Md. - Alan Goldborough has taken on just about every job you can think of. He has been a soldier, he's worked at sea and he has been a brick layer. But recently he has added one more title to that list.

Working along side his daughter Heather, the determined duo opened up a new crab shack at the intersection of Route 50 and Main Street in Berlin called, Shipwrecked Seafood.

Heather Goldborough shared that while it may seem a little bit unconventional, the parts of the shack were built almost entirely by her father Alan.

"The cooler box is designed by dad. He built pretty much the whole thing by himself. I did the painting, but that's about it. And we made the tent too and we put the trailer hitch on the car so everything is made from scratch."

Not only did the duo build the shack but the Goldboroughs also maintain all of the business that goes on. Heather said, "We do everything. I make the signs. We find the crabs. We sell the crabs. We store the crabs. If something breaks, we fix it."

The paint may be chipped and the signs may be held up with crabbing line, but this business is as reel as it gets and according to Alan, it is a dream come true. The Goldboroughs even hope to turn the small shack into a restaurant one day.

Shipwrecked Seafood had its opening weekend over Memorial Day and is open for business Friday through Sunday.
