Medical Marijuana Dispensary Coming to Salisbury

SALISBURY, Md.- Medical marijuana dispensary will be coming to Salisbury.

Peninsula Alternative Health will be taking over a space on Snow Hill Rd and opening a medical marijuana dispensary.

While marijuana has been most commonly used for pleasure and recreational purposes, now it's turning over a new leaf...medicinal.

Clinical director of Peninsula Alternative Health, Mary Pat Hoffman, said they're trying to break the stigma that comes along with marijuana and hopes they can do that through this dispensary.

"I grew up in the 70's and 80's where pot was a say no to drugs kind of thing and it was always referred to as an illicit substance," said Hoffman.

Hoffman said she seen this "illicit substance" change lives. Hoffman said, "The benefits of the dispensary are really numerous. There are so many patients that are suffering from diseases and conditions that traditional therapies just aren't giving them adequate relief."

But, Jeff Sherr, Owner of Apple Drugs said with drugs, like weed, comes concern of abuse.

"We're going into an area with un-chartered waters where we don't really know where we're going. It's a whole new thing for us, if you look at marijuana, marijuana's a drug, it's no different than heroin it's got the same federal class as a class one which means its more abusable than oxycodone," Sherr said.

CEO of Peninsula Alternative Health, Anthony Darby, said the dispensary will be similar to a retail pharmacy.

Darby said if all goes well with their next inspection, they will open in September.
