People Work Against Heat Wave on Delmarva

SALISBURY, Md.- Benny Van Der Wende was determined to get rid of weeds near his church on Tuesday even though it was hot, hot hot.

"Drink plenty of water and learn to live with it. The Eastern Shore...I love it!" he said.

At a nearby neighborhood, Alfredo Tello wiped his brow in between painting a house.

The heat made it hard.

"I feel tired," he said. "Tired and been sweating a lot."

Some members of the senior center called Maintaining Active Citizens, or MAC, decided to avoid the heat completely.

Helena Green stopped by to hang out with friends and play bingo.

As for the heat - Green said she was prepared.

"When it comes to June and July, we know we're going to get some heat," she said. "There's no question about it so why worry about it? We got to just govern ourselves accordingly and do what needs to be done."

Temperatures will likely reach well into the 90s this week.
