SALISBURY, Md.- The Office of the Wicomico State's Attorneys Office says a Salisbury man has been convicted of first-degree rape.

Authorities said that in October of 2016, Charles Joseph Griffin, 34, followed the victim in the area of 202 Center St. in Salisbury and confronted her on the sidewalk. He then forced her to the backyard of the home at knifepoint, investigators said. Police said that once in the backyard, Griffin forced the victim to have sexual intercourse with him.

Sentencing has been postponed to allow for a presentence investigation.

Griffin will be a Tier III sexual offender and required to register as a sex offender for the rest of his life, prosecutors said.
