One Hurt After DART Bus, Pickup Collide Near Lewes

Posted: Updated:

LEWES, Del.- Delaware State Police say a man was injured after a DART bus collided with his pickup just west of Route 1 on Friday morning.

Master Cpl. Gary Fournier said the incident happened  shortly before 9 a.m. at the intersection of Route 9 and Belltown Road.

Fournier said the bus, which was being driven by a 49-year-old woman, was heading northbound when it made a left turn onto Route 9 from Belltown Road and failed to yield the right of way to the pickup, which was traveling southbound across Route 9 onto Belltown Road from the Ace Hardware access road.

As a result of the collision, the driver of the pickup was transported to Beebe Healthcare for treatment of minor non-life-threatening injuries, according to Fournier.

The driver of the bus was cited for failure to yield the right of way on a left turn. Three passengers on the bus were reportedly uninjured.
