REHOBOTH BEACH, Del. (AP) - Local officials say a ban on tents at Rehoboth Beach, Delaware, is getting a mostly positive reception.

Frank Maragos, who was visiting from Culpepper, Virginia, says the tents took up too much space on the beach.

The tent and canopy ban was first proposed in January. Local officials approved it in March in a 6-1 vote. The ban began May 15.

Lt. Jamie Riddle, a spokesman for the Rehoboth Beach Police Department, says overall reception to the new ordinance has been positive.

Carol Everhart, president of the Rehoboth Beach-Dewey Beach Chamber of Commerce, says the group has only received a few complaints about not being able to put tents up. But prior to the ordinance, there were dozens of complaints about the amount of tents.
