A Life Saving Drug Now Sold Over the Counter

Posted: Updated:

OCEAN PINES, Md. - People react to the sight of narcan being sold in pharmacies in Maryland.

The life saving drug that costs nearly $150 dollars over the counter, can be purchased by anyone with no prescription or training warranted.

27-year-old Sean Kelly is a recovered addict and said placing narcan into more peoples hands might be one of the tools to help put a stop to this opioid epidemic.

"I used to be a heroin and opioid addict and in 2014 I went to rehab and got clean and had a few bumps in the road but I've been sober for almost a year today," Kelly said.

Ocean Pines resident Jamie McNealy and husband to founder of Worcester County Warriors Against Opiate Addiction, said "For anything, I lost a step son 6 months ago to this so he was 34 years old. So, whatever is going to save a life I'm all for it. "

Owner of Apple Discount Drugs, Jeff Sherr, said while it might be costly the benefits outweigh the price.

" I think that every body should actually have access to narcan. Anybody who is on a long acting opioid like an oxycodone or anything is just a chance that they might have a mishap. But, it's a great idea just the fact that we can keep people safe and rescue people who need to be rescued."
