REHOBOTH BEACH, Del.- A Virginia man fled from officers on the Rehoboth Beach boardwalk that ended with a police officer in the hospital, according to police.

The Rehoboth Beach Police Department said 21-year-old James J. McKeown, of Sterling, Va., fled from police after being suspected of marijuana possession. After calling for backup, police said, McKeown fled north on the boardwalk.

McKeown led police down the boardwalk on foot and ended when he went through the back entrance of a restaurant that placed him near Baltimore Avenue, according to Rehoboth Beach Police. An officer tackled McKeown and took him into custody.

While pursuing McKeown in the chase, an officer struck his head on a piece of wood on the boardwalk.  Police said he suffered from a concussion and was transported to Beebe Health Campus before being released.

Rehoboth Beach Police said McKeown was charged with one count of resisting arrest with force (a felony), one count of disorderly conduct and one count of possession of marijuana.  He was released on a $2,550 unsecured bail.
