Denton Man Arrested for Suspected Truck Theft

A Denton man was arrested for suspected theft Thursday. A Denton man was arrested for suspected theft Thursday.

DENTON, Md.-  After a brief chase through Caroline County, Maryland State Police arrested a Denton man Thursday morning on auto theft and related charges.

Jeffrey David Ireland, 29, is charged with driving under the influence, theft, theft over $1,000, fleeing and eluding police and other traffic-related charges in connection with the incident.

Shortly after 1:30 a.m. Thursday, a trooper attempted to stop a Chevrolet truck for a traffic violation, police said.

The driver, later identified as Ireland, failed to stop, leading police on a chase into the town of Denton. Soon after, Ireland crashed his car into a yard on 2nd Street and attempted to run away, police said.

He was taken into custody after a brief foot chase. An investigation revealed the car Ireland was driving had been stolen from Centreville.
