Portion of Salisbury's East Main Street Reopens to the Public

Posted: Updated:

SALISBURY, Md.- The first phase of construction on East Main Street in downtown Salisbury is almost complete and the roadway is set to reopen Thursday afternoon.

A project that was set to take three months took nearly nine and businesses like Dryden said while the road was closed it hurt.

"100 percent this road blockage has hindered our business," said Julie Snowden an employee at Dryden.

Owner of the Manhatten Square Building David Moore said while the road work has been a pain, in the end it will all be worth it.

"All of us in my building have had a tough time with a slow down in business but its for the greater good," Moore said.

But, while contractors are opening one portion of the roadway phase two will begin immediately after.

This second phase will be on the other portion of East Main Street between Poplar Hill Avenue & Baptist Street.

Contractors said this second phase is expect to take about three months to complete.

Mayor Jake Day commented on the project and said this is one of the biggest infrastructure undertakings the city has seen in decades. He assured the project is on schedule and on budget.
