After Ohio Incident, Delaware State Fair Officials Say Safety is Important

Posted: Updated:

HARRINGTON, Del. -- A day after one person was killed and several people were hurt in an incident at the Ohio State Fair involving an amusement ride, officials with the Delaware State Fair said safety and inspections were key to operations.

Danny Aguilar with the Delaware State Fair on Thursday said his heart went out to operators with the Ohio State Fair and that adequate safety precautions have been taken to keep people safe at Delaware's fairgrounds.

"Constantly we're looking at the rides, just making sure if there's anything out of the ordinary or something occurs they immediately shut things down, inspect, just make sure, and get everything properly up and running and inspected," he said.

Additionally, Aguilar said rides are inspected by state officials and an independent ride inspector before any of them open.

Some parents said the Ohio incident concerned them but wouldn't stop them from letting their kids enjoy amusement rides at the Delaware State Fair.

"I'm not concerned about that," said Shaun Permila, an exhibitor at the fair. "I believe that's a fluke. Everybody just needs to come out here and have a good time and that's what it is."
