Deadly Motorcycle Crash Kills 1 In Smyrna

TRAPPE, Md.-  A motorcyclist is dead after a crash on Route 50 Thursday night.

According to Maryland State Police, 37-year-old Derrick Brown of Cambridge was driving a motorcycle westbound on Route 50 near the Malkus Bridge at a very high speed around 7 p.m.

As traffic slowed, witnesses say the motorcycle began to pass the cars on the road's shoulder before going off the road and crashing, police said.

Brown was pronounced dead at the scene, police said.

He was wearing a helmet, but alcohol and speed are believed to have been factors in the accident, police said.
