Salisbury Zoo Determined to Find Escaped Owl

SALISBURY, Md.-  Salisbury Zoo staffers are continuing to look for a rare owl that escaped a week ago following the fall of a massive maple tree.

Down went the tree and out went the owl.

A 60-foot maple tree gave everyone a surprise last Friday morning at the zoo. The result: the spectacled owl exhibit destroyed.

Brinkley Rayne has a special relationship with the owls. She's been their primary keeper for quite some time and says these South and Central American species of owl are difficult to replace, and this particular one could fly.

"The problem is right now she's a fully-flighted owl. She has the ability to go wherever and we want to make sure we get her back in our zoo and make sure that she's OK," Rayne said.

According to the zoo, two professors from Salisbury University's ornithology department did attempt to lure the owls but did not have any luck.

Zoo staffers say an animal raised in captivity usually stays near its enclosure. But until she's captured, the zoo is asking if you see an owl to message the Salisbury Zoo's Facebook page with a picture.
