Worcester Co. Sheriff's Office: Suspicious Persons Approaching Children

Posted: Updated:

WORCESTER COUNTY, Md.- The Worcester County Sheriff's Office is investigating reports of suspicious persons approaching children in at least two areas of the county.

According to Lt. Ed Schreier, earlier this week the Sheriff's Office received a report of a man in Girdletree who approached children and told them to go to him. A similar incident happened in Whaleyville in which someone approached children there, according to Schreirer. At this time, the Sheriff's Office does not know if both incidents are related or if they involve the same person.

"We are following up on several leads in identification of the suspects," the Sheriff's Office said in a Tweet.

The Sheriff's Office is upgrading patrols in response to these incidents, according to Schreirer, who is encouraging parents to "keep a close eye on their kids, especially when they are playing outside."

Anyone with information about these incidents should call the Worcester County Sheriff's Office at 410-632-1111.

Empty Crab Houses Look to Fall Season, Still With No Crab Pickers

It's slim pickings for at least three of Dorchester County's crab houses. Since the start of crab season in April, the crab houses have sat empty without their Mexican crab pickers. It started when the U.S. Department of Homeland Security released H2-B worker visas through a lottery system, leaving out many businesses in dire need of seasonal help.
