Man Killed in Delmar Crash

DELMAR, Del.- A man was killed and several other people injured after a two-vehicle crash east of Delmar on Friday night.

Delaware State Police said that shortly before 7 p.m., 32-year-old Mario Martinez-Jimenez, of Mexico, was driving a Ford Expedition southbound on Pepperbox Road when he failed to stop at a stop sign.

The lefthand side of Martinez-Jimenez' Expedition was struck by a Ford F-150 pickup truck driven by a 75-year-old Laurel man, who was heading westbound. At this point, Martinez-Jimenez's SUV ran off the roadway and overturned. The pickup also ran off the roadway.

Troopers said an unidentified male passenger in the Martinez-Jimenez's SUV was killed. He was not wearing his seat belt at the time. Police said the victim's name will be released once they have a positive identification and his family is notified.

Martinez-Jimenez, who police was properly restrained at the time of the crash, was taken to Nanticoke Memorial Hospital with serious injuries. Police said they are looking into whether Martinez-Jimenez was impaired at the time of the crash.

A 28-year-old passenger in Martinez-Jimenez's SUV was also taken to the hospital and treated for non-life-threatening injuries.

A 44-year-old male passenger in the SUV was airlifted to Peninsula Regional Medical Center in Salisbury, Md., and then subsequently flown to the Baltimore Shock Trauma Center where he was treated for serious injuries.

Two more passengers - a 34-year-old man and 21-year-old man - were taken to PRMC for injuries as well.

The driver of the pickup, who was properly restrained at the time of the crash, was removed from the scene by ambulance and transported to the PRMC where he was treated and released.

This crash remains under investigation by police. Charges are expected.

The intersection was closed for approximately four hours as the crash was investigated and cleared.

Empty Crab Houses Look to Fall Season, Still With No Crab Pickers

It's slim pickings for at least three of Dorchester County's crab houses. Since the start of crab season in April, the crab houses have sat empty without their Mexican crab pickers. It started when the U.S. Department of Homeland Security released H2-B worker visas through a lottery system, leaving out many businesses in dire need of seasonal help.
