SALISBURY, Md.- Maryland State Police have released the name of man shot to death in Salisbury on Monday night.

The victim, identified as Arthur William Smith, 31, of Salisbury, was pronounced dead while en route to Peninsula Regional Medical Center.

Police said the preliminary information indicates two or more suspects, were involved. Investigators from the MSP Homicide Unit and the Salisbury City Police Department are working to obtain additional information.

Investigators said that just before 10 p.m. Monday, Salisbury police officers responded to the 800-block of Gettysburg Street in reference to a 911 call reporting a shooting. Upon their arrival, they found the victim, later identified as Smith, lying on the ground in the front yard of a home suffering from at least one gunshot wound.

The MSP Homicide Unit was called by the Salisbury City Police Department to lead the investigation. Investigators said they do not know at this time if the victim was the intended target of the suspect.

State police investigators worked throughout the night and are actively continuing their investigation today. Additional assistance is being provided by the MSP Forensic Sciences Division and the Salisbury Police Department. The investigation is still on going.
