Dumser's Dairyland Boardwalk Location Faces Demolition

OCEAN CITY, Md.- Dumser's Dairyland is a popular ice-cream parlor with seven locations in Ocean City. However, the land of which its boardwalk location sits on is owned by the state of Maryland.

For the past 50 years, the landlord of the building which leases to Dumser's on the boardwalk lot had an agreement with the town of Ocean City to occupy the space.

Last year, that agreement expired and Ocean City wants complete control of that property.

"The landlord has collected thousands and thousands of rent from Dumser's over property that the town should be administrating. The town has been receiving very few dollars in return and that's not in the best interest of our taxpayers. We want to correct that situation," says Ocean City Mayor Richard Meehan.

But if the town takes the property back, there's a possibility Dumser's Dairyland on the boardwalk could face demolition.

People from all over are signing a petition that can be found on Facebook, hoping Dumser's does not go anywhere.

"It's just sad that it would go away, because it would be something I couldn't do with my son anymore," says Ocean City visitor, Sarah Huber.

The landlords' fought back with a lawsuit, but recently a judge ruled in favor of the town saying they have the right to get rid of the building.

The mayor says no such plans are in the works, but realizes the future of the building remains in doubt.
