SALISBURY, Md.- Governor Larry Hogan was in Salisbury on Friday to help announce a new power plant for Peninsula Regional Medical Center.

PRMC said they received a Combined Heat and Power grant from the Maryland Energy Administration that will help the hospital to provide more environmentally efficient power.

The CHP system can generate electricity and thermal energy through one integrated system, according to PRMC.

PRMC said the grant totals $494,320 for the project.  The hospital can operate at 80% efficiency levels with the new system.

The Maryland Energy Administration will announce the state's largest CHP grant for the 2018 fiscal year soon.  The grant will total $5.5 million.

"It's a good example for other facilities around the state to model their programs after," Governor Hogan said.

Governor Hogan also visited businesses damaged by the tornado last week during his visit to Salisbury on Friday.  The governor additionally defended his decision to remove the statue of Supreme Court Justice Robert Taney from the state house grounds.
