The estimated Powerball jackpot climbed to $700 million for Wednesday's draw, making it the second-largest in U.S. history.

The drawing will occur at 10:59 p.m. Eastern Time in Tallahassee, Florida. Players pay $2 and can choose five numbers and one Powerball number, or have a computer generate the ticket for them.

Maryland, Delaware and Virginia are among the states that participate in the Powerball game, alongside 44 other states, Washington D.C., Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands. 25 percent of the earnings are taken out of the winnings for federal taxes, which help raise money for government programs in the states that the Powerball is played.

The largest Powerball jackpot was drawn in 2016 at a total of $1.6 billion with three winning tickets from California, Florida and Tennessee. The third largest was pulled in 2012 with winning tickets from Kansas, Illinois and Maryland.
