BERLIN, Md- Atlantic General Hospital in partnership with Pets on Wheels of Delmarva is now providing animal assisted therapy to patients who request is as part of integrative therapies initiative.

Every week different dogs visit the hospital and provide therapy to patients at Atlantic General Hospital.

"It helps them cope, helps them have a little distraction from any pain or symptom managements that they might be going through at the moment," says Gail Minsell, Director of Supportive Care Services at Atlantic General Hospital.

Patients say interacting with the dogs improves their overall disposition.

"Improvement in my overall well being, my happiness, keeping me calm, it brightens my day up," said patient, Sara Bramble.

Atlantic General Hospital says they recently started animal assisted therapy in the ER unit and hope to expand this therapy to other units.
