SUSSEX COUNTY, Del. - The man accused of neglecting 14 dogs on a Millsboro property will spend a year in home confinement as part of his sentencing.

Back in November, fourteen emaciated dogs and four dead dogs were found on Atwood Timmons II' property. In December, Timmons waived his right to a preliminary hearing and headed to Delaware Superior Court where he faced a variety of charges. He was sentenced this week.

Timmons pled guilty to 10 counts of of Cruelty to Animals and sentenced one year of home confinement as a result. Following his home confinement, he will be on probation for a year. Timmons is also banned from owning or possessing an animal for the rest of his life.

After the dogs' rescue, they were taken to the Brandywine Valley SPCA for treatment and subsequent adoption. The SPCA issued the following statement on their Facebook page following the sentencing:

21 dogs suffered in what Delaware state officials called one of the worst neglect cases they’ve seen. When we took in these dogs over Thanksgiving weekend and the following weeks it took to secure some of the loose dogs, many were weak from lack of food and water and riddled with fleas, parasites and other wounds. We’re glad to see the perpetrator convicted and the horrific conditions acknowledged. For many of these dogs, it will be a lifetime of trying to heal their emotional wounds. We feel very fortunate to have played a part in helping them along the journey to a better place and to have connected them with loving families to show them the good in the world.

As part of the sentencing, Timmons was also ordered to pay $1,217.17 to his neighbor.
