Lobbyists Granted Dedicated Space at Delaware's State House

DOVER, Del. (AP)- Lobbyists have been offered a dedicated room at Delaware's Legislative Hall on a trial basis.

State Senate President Pro Tempore David McBride announced Tuesday that the state's more than 300 registered lobbyists could use a conference room on the second floor of the state house, in an effort to clear out public space.

The Democratic senator says lobbyists have long "camped out in the hallways, taking up couches and space" designed for citizens' use.

He said he plans to try the arrangement out for a few weeks to gauge efficacy.

Senate Republicans expressed frustration, with Minority Leader Greg Lavelle questioning the need for a "comfort station" for lobbyists.

McBride said he didn't care about the optics, and referenced journalists' dedicated space in the basement.
