DOVER, Del. --- Sam's Club locations in Dover and Salisbury were not listed by parent company Walmart among the 63 stores that hare closing as part of a reorganization announced on Thursday.

Walmart said in a news release that a number of the closed stores would be converted into fulfillment centers. Neither the location in Dover or Salisbury were shuttered.

“Transforming our business means managing our real estate portfolio and Walmart needs a strong fleet of Sam’s Clubs that are fit for the future,” said John Furner, president and CEO of Sam’s Club. “We know this is difficult news for our associates and we are working to place as many of them as possible at nearby locations. Our focus today has been on those associates and their communities, and communicating with them.”

Customers packed into the Dover Sam's Club on Friday, relieved the membership wholesaler was still open after so many other locations had been closed.

"It's a staple for Dover. There's no where else you can go to get stuff like this for these prices. It's a benefit to the community," said Wayne Booz of Felton, who visited the store on Friday.

News of the closings came on the same day Walmart announced it would be boosting starting salaries for employees and giving bonuses after the passage of the new tax law in Washington D.C.
