Two Women in Child Abuse Case Appear in Court

Posted: Feb 02, 2018 6:28 PM Updated:

29-year-old Amanda Wright and 25-year-old Besline Joseph, the two accused abusers, were in Wicomico County Court Friday morning.

The two woman arrived with one attorney and the judge decided to hold off on a bond decision until each defendant could have their own attorney.

It's been three days since 29 year-old, Amanda Wright and 25 year-old Besline Joseph were arrested for multiple counts of child abuse and neglect.

Court documents obtained from WBOC say the children were locked in the living room closet for approximately four months in the summer of 2017 and they were only let out to eliminate themselves.

The documents go on to say "if the children got loud in the closet, Joseph, would make them come out and perform squatting exercises with books in their hands."

Dr. Todd, a clinical psychologist, at Atlantic Psychologist at Atlantic Psychology,  says explains what abuse does to a child.

"It has a big impact on their ability to trust other people, because here's someone who's supposed to be caring for you, loving you, and if they're mistreating you, it's really confusing for the child," says Dr. Todd.

The women are being held until their bond hearing. Their preliminary hearing is set for March 1st.
