Witness Who Says Police Broke His Nose Could Get $90K

BALTIMORE (AP)- Baltimore could pay $90,000 to a man who says police broke his nose after he declined to make a witness statement about a robbery.

The city's Board of Estimates is scheduled to vote on the settlement Wednesday.

The payment would resolve a lawsuit brought against police by Donovan Hand of Irvine, California. In 2015, Hand told police he heard something and saw three people running away from a robbery. One threatened Hand with a knife.

Police asked Hand to make a formal statement at the police station But he said had a job interview early the next morning.

According to a summary of the case to be presented to the board, the dispute escalated and two officers tackled Hand, breaking his nose.
