REHOBOTH BEACH, Del. -- Rehoboth Beach Police say they are investigating a crash that temporarily closed the west-bound lanes of Rehoboth Avenue Saturday night.

Police said it happened after 6 p.m. According to the Rehoboth Beach Police, a 45-year-old Middletown man was attempting to back out of a parking spot when he hit another car. Police say the man, driving a blue pick up truck, attempted to flee the scene. In the process, he hit four parked cars.

Police say the truck eventually hit a pole. Five people, including the driver, were transported with non-life-threatening injuries. No pedestrians were struck.

The north side of Rehoboth Avenue was closed from Second Street to the Rehoboth Beach Fire Station for hours as well as the sidewalk in front of the Sandcastle Motel.

The Rehoboth Beach Police Department is investigating the crash. Authorities say alcohol is believed to be a factor in the crash.
