Bridgeville Man Charged After Alleged Machete Attack

BRIDGEVILLE, Del. – A Bridgeville man faces charges after allegedly assaulting a man with a machete.

According to Delaware State Police, on Saturday, July 7, troopers responded to a report of an assault at the Nanticoke Memorial Hospital. There, troopers learned the victim, a 55-year-old man from Bridgeville, was assaulted while at a friend's house on Redden Road in Bridgeville.

The suspect was identified as 65-year-old Augustas Bailey of Bridgeville. Bailey went into the house and began threatening the victim, police said. Bailey then went after the victim with a machete, which was stuck into the victim’s hand as he was trying to defend himself, according to investigators. 

The victim sustained serious cuts to his right hand and was eventually transported to the Curtis National Hand Center in Baltimore.

Bailey was arrested at his home and faces numerous charges, including first-degree assault, Possession of a Deadly Weapon During the Commission of a Felony, first-degree Reckless Endanger, and Terroristic Threatening. 

Bailey was arraigned before the Justice of the Peace Court 3 and committed to the Sussex Correctional Institution on $106,000 secured bond.
