CAMBRIDGE, Md. - Behind the fountains at Cambridge Marketplace, artist Michael Rosato was painting, of all things, a blue jay - something he almost didn't think would end up here.

"Cambridge Marketplace has been just sitting here with nothing for so long. Every time you drive by it's just like, wow!"

Since construction at Cambridge Marketplace began last year, Rosato says the place has transformed.

A new Starbucks is still in the works and is set to open in September, according to one of the developers, Hunter Fairchild. Fairchild says a medical center is on the way too, taking up the old K-Mart and the empty lot next to it.

"We have one pad site left which we are working with Chik-fil-A to takeover as well. Other than that, we are 100 percent leased," Fairchild said.

Fairchild also says there's still much more work to be done before Route 50 beach goers finally can stop and take a look.

It's a few more weeks of work for Rosato too, who expects to wrap up the mural some time next month.

"It's just stunning," Rosato said.

Fairchild also says the animals on the mural represent family members, friends, and animals found at "the heart" of Dorchester County.

Fairchild adds Cambridge Marketplace's grand opening is currently set for Sept. 20.
