Many Still Attend OC Bikefest Despite Hurricane Florence

Posted: Sep 14, 2018 5:53 PM -04:00 Updated:

OCEAN CITY, Md-With Hurricane Florence threatening the east coast this past week, many were unsure if Ocean City Bikefest would still be on. This, in light of Delmarva Bike Week being canceled earlier in the week due to bad weather.

Despite fears, bikefest is still on--today, many people went to the Ocean City Convention Center to participate in the festivities.

"We were a little bit nervous when we first found out that this hurricane was going on, but then after some time rolled on, we decided 'you know what, we're going,'" Alice Ralston, who attended the event said.

Every year, bikefest organizers say over 100,000 bikes attend the event. Due to weather predictions with Hurricane Florence, they predict there could be a dip in this year's draw.

But that didn't stop some from coming out and experiencing bikefest for themselves, some even made purchases on motorcycles already.

"We've had a great time, already made some purchases and looked at a bike we might want to take home with us today," Monica Snyder, and her husband said. "I hope people take advantage of the break in the clouds and get down here and have some fun," she added.

With events from Delmarva Bike Week moving to the Convention Center, some are happy to experience bikefest in Ocean City.

"I like it here in Ocean City better than the way it's strung out through Salisbury and stuff, that's a pain," Kevin Miller said.

An event some said was too good to pass up this weekend.
