WICOMICO COUNTY, Md. - Wicomico County officials are taking steps to hopefully prevent flooding in the Pratt Road area, which is a hot-spot for flooding.

A recently completed study identifies six projects to improve drainage in the area.

The first one the county is looking to complete is in the community of West Nithsdale.

Public Works Director Dallas Baker said there is significant erosion there where the Pratt Road drainage shed enters into the Wicomico River.

Baker said the goal is to stabilize the area to prevent further erosion.

Baker also said the plan is to complete the other five projects in phases.

Baker said they have applied for a grant to fund the first project and should hear back in December.

If that funding is secured, Baker said he would like to see construction start in late spring or early summer of 2019.

On Thursday, OC Air Show pilots and their planes flew into the Wallops Flight Facility to begin practicing for the weekend events.

On Saturday and Sunday the beaches of Ocean City will be filled with people looking up at the planes overhead.

The 12th annual event is expected to bring in thousands of people, so Dirato recommends getting to the 17th street area as early as possible to get a good spot.
