Chestertown House Fire Under Investigation

Posted: Updated:

CHESTERTOWN, Md.- Deputy Maryland state fire marshals are investigating a fire at a two-story home in Chestertown.

Forty-five firefighters battled the one-alarm blaze on Old Bridge Road around 8:40 p.m. Wednesday. It was discovered by a neighbor, officials said.

The owner of the home was found dead in a shed at the rear of the house. The Queen Anne's County Sheriff's Office is investigating the death, because fire marshals determined it was not a result of the fire, officials said.

Two firefighters sustained minor injuries as a result. One received treatment on the scene, and the other was transported by ambulance to the University of Maryland, Shore Medical Center. He was treated and later released, according to officials.

The fire originated on the exterior of the home. Smoke alarms were located in the house, but it was not determined if they activated. The cause of the fire was determined to be incendiary, officials said.
