MSP Investigating Deadly Pedestrian Crash in Queen Anne's County

Posted: Updated:

CHESTER, Md -- Maryland State Police said a Chester man died early Thursday morning after he was hit by a tractor-trailer.

It happened in the area of Route 50 and Piney Narrows Road around 5:30 a.m.

Emergency crews responded to the scene shortly after the initial reports, where they pronounced the man dead.

The pedestrian was identified as James Edward Fresch, 66, of Chester.

It doesn't appear that the driver of the tractor-trailer, a Dover, Delaware man, was injured in the incident.

Investigators ruled that the crash was pedestrian error. Officers with the Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Division and MSP's CRASH Team were also on scene investigating, as well as State Highway Administration and Statewide Operations Center.

The road was partially closed at the time of the crash, allowing traffic to still pass through the area.
