DSP Investigating Deadly Crash Involving Motorcycle and DART Bus

MAGNOLIA, Del.- Delaware State Police said one person has died after a crash involving a motorcycle and a DART transit bus Friday afternoon. 

It happened shortly before 12:15 p.m. on Irish Hill Road near Lexington Mill Road in Magnolia.

According to police, a motorcyclist was heading east on Irish Hill Road while a Ford DART transit bus was traveling west on the same road. Both drivers were approaching the intersection at Lexington Mill Road when police said the bus turned left and into the path of the motorcyclist. The motorcycle then collided with the bus. 

Troopers said the motorcycle operating, a 62-year-old mam from Felton, died at the scene. Police said the driver was wearing a helmet. 

The driver of the DART bus, a 55-year-old man from Smyrna, was wearing a seat belt and was taken to Bayhealth Kent General Hospital with minor injuries. 

There was no one else on the bus when the crash happened.

The intersection was closed for about four hours while crews were on the scene. The DSP Collision Reconstruction Unit is continuing to investigate the crash.
