REHOBOTH BEACH, Del.- Delaware State Police are investigating a serious crash involving a concrete mixer truck and an SUV that caused traffic delays Friday morning on Coastal Highway (SR 1) at John J. Williams Highway (Rt. 24) in Rehoboth Beach.

The crash, which occurred at around 9:15 a.m., closed Coastal Highway at John J. Williams Highway for several hours, according to police. Police say a 2008 Mercury Mariner was in a northbound left turn lane, when for reasons unknown at this time, the car crossed the concrete median directly in front of the southbound concrete mixer. Police say the car's driver was a 48-year-old woman from Lewes and was trapped in her car. After being extricated, she was transported to Beebe Medical Center and later to Christiana Hospital. At last check, police say the woman was in serious but stable condition.

Police say the cement mixer was driven by a 34-year-old Dover man. He too was hospitalized, but later released with minor injuries.

The crash is still under investigation.
