Radio Host to Headline UMES Winter Commencement

Posted: Updated:

PRINCESS ANNE, Md. - Radio host Tom Joyner will deliver the commencement address at the University of Maryland Eastern Shore’s winter graduation exercises.

According to a school news release, the broadcaster’s foundation named UMES its “School of the Month” and throughout the month of September the syndicated Tom Joyner Morning Show urged listeners to support the university’s scholarship fund with donations.

Joyner delivered a commencement address at UMES in December 2003, when he also was awarded an honorary degree.

Joyner announced earlier this year he plans to retire as a full-time broadcaster in 2019.

School officials say the university anticipates it will award about 260 degrees at the William P. Hytche Athletic Center during the ceremony on Dec. 14.

Admission is limited to tickets distributed to graduation candidates and their families.
