Easton's Avalon Theatre Under Renovation

Posted: Updated:

EASTON, Md. - Shows are still going on at the historic Avalon Theatre in downtown Easton despite renovations that have been going on since August.

Avalon Foundation CEO Al Bond says the renovations will mirror the theatre's 1930's art-deco aesthetic back when the newest show in theater was "Small Town Girl."

Bond says they've also been working on repainting the theatre's decorative walls and golden ceiling. The project's interior designer, Don Wooters of Dwelling & Design, says painting alone took a solid month and tons of historic research.

"The finishes have such a wonderful luster and old glow to them when they're lit and it's just really going to be an enchanting place for people to go to for entertainment," Wooters said.

The look may be old but Bonds says the lighting installed in and around the theater and seating area will be top of the notch.

"What we really want to be is ready for the next century," Bond said.

Bond says they're also re-doing the bathrooms in the basement of the theatre to bring more room and the building up to code.

If all goes according to plan, Bond says renovations should be complete by mid-2019.

Crews Cleanup Chesapeake Bay Debris Following Record Rainfall

Earlier this Summer, flooding in areas up north has brought tons of freshwater and debris down through the Susquehanna River. The debris passes through the Conowingo Dam and ends up in the Chesapeake Bay. Most of the debris consists of large tree trunks and limbs. Now, Maryland's Department of Natural Resources says a lot has been cleared in the upper Bay, but four months later, the cleanup continues.
