GRASONVILLE, Md.- Investigators say a malfunctioning power inlet sparked a fire that cost a Queen Anne's County volunteer fire department its rescue boat.

According to the Maryland State Fire Marshal's, a fire aboard the boat owned by the Grasonville Volunteer Fire Department was reported at 5:41 p.m. Tuesday at 500 Kent Narrows Way North.

Authorities say 23 firefighters from the department responded and had the fire under control in half an hour.

Investigators said the fire started on the starboard side, rear deck of the boat and was caused by a malfunction of the 30 amp power inlet.

Total damage to the 32-foot Haddaway fire/rescue boat and its contents is estimated to be more than $250,000.

There were no reported injuries.
