MILFORD, Del. (WBOC/AP)- Police have arrested a man they say shot and wounded a 4-year-old girl during a fight at a Milford apartment complex.

Thirty-six-year-old Derrick Morris, of Lincoln, surrendered to Milford police Thursday. While police did not specify the charges against him, he was ordered held in the Sussex Correctional Institution on a $159,100 cash bail.

Police say the girl was shot in the head Sunday by a stray bullet as she stood next to a Christmas tree inside her family's Brightway Commons apartment. She was hospitalized and survived.

Police say investigators believe a fight in the apartment complex's courtyard led to the gunshot that wounded the girl.

Authorities did not immediately release the identities of the girl or others involved in the shooting.

Morris is set to appear at the Kent County Court of Common Pleas on Jan. 4 for a preliminary hearing.
