Delaware House Passes Equal Rights Amendment

Posted: Updated:

DOVER, Del. --- House lawmakers in Delaware on Thursday passed a the second leg of a constitutional amendment banning discrimination based on sex.

The legislation was passed last year by the General Assembly and must be approved in both the House and the Senate again in consecutive General Assemblies.

Supporters say the Equal Rights Amendment would guarantee women the same treatment as men under Delaware's constitution.

The legislation heads to the Senate. If the amendment is approved there it will become law, not needing the signature of Gov. John Carney.
