Lewes Considers Parking Solutions

Posted: Updated:

LEWES, De--In Sussex County, people are fed up with limited parking spaces near Lewes beach and downtown. The city met Thursday to discuss possible solutions.

Thursday's meeting in Lewes was a room full of concerned visitors and neighbors, all hoping for better parking options.

"It just makes it harder and harder to circle around all day, looking for a parking spot," says David Shook.

The parking committees wants to address drivers concerns. They're currently exploring ways to expand parking in the downtown Lewes area.

"We're looking at how we can grow the parking while we can still continue to find a much larger solution," says Ted Becker, Mayor of Lewes.

Neighbors say they're hoping something is done, because during the summer months, parking in the downtown area is scarce.

"The problem now is it's congested with parking, you have to plan ahead or park blocks ahead," says Milton neighbor, Lois Bixby.

Mayor Becker does not want people to give up on Lewes parking, which is why the committee is coming up with ideas now.

"Adding signage, angle parking, perhaps reconfiguring the city lot, a little bit so we get more spaces in it," says Bixby.

A step toward fixing an issue neighbors are calling an inconvenience.
