People Preparing For First Snowfall Of The Season This Weekend

Posted: Updated:

SALISBURY, Md. - From the gas stations to the grocery stores, people were preparing all over Delmarva today for the first snowfall of the season.

Kimb Haddaway says while she enjoys the snow, she's avoiding the long lines at the grocery stores.

"There always is, I just sit back and laugh because I never have that problem. But yeah, they'll be out there tearing up the shelves," Haddaway said.

For those like Dennis Handel, a little bit of snow isn't stopping his weekend plans.

"It sets people into a panic, and I think it's just unnecessary. But it's good to be prepared, I'm all happy people are prepared, but they over do it," Handel said.

But for those like Brian Cooper, a team leader for the State Highway Administration, winter weather means working over the weekend.

"You'll be here all weekend and one week runs into the next and it's like 12-day stretch and you just don't get no rest or anything. It wears you out a little," Cooper said.

Cooper and his crew have been making thousands of gallons of brine for the last two days straight.  Even sharing some of their resources with neighboring Dorchester, Somerset and Worcester counties.

"Everybody's hitting us pretty hard today, we're doing like three different counties filling up their tanks and trucks to do their roads and stuff and we're just about out," Cooper said.

But now that all the major highways have brine, Cooper says all he can do now is wait for the snow to fall on Saturday.
