Dewey Beach to Hire Police Consultant

Posted: Updated:

DEWEY BEACH, Del. - Dewey Beach Commissioners are one step closer to hiring a police consultant.

It's something the town has been looking into since 2017. At that time, they didn't have a town manager and were not able to move forward. Now, with that position filled, commissioners say the proposal can finally be reviewed.

At a commissioner meeting Monday, commissioners voted to let the Town Manager use up to $25,000 to hire the consultant to oversee the police department.

"He would produce a report saying to the commissioners this is what could be done," said Commissioner David Moscowitz. "Then also, he's available for consultation if the police have any issue and are unsure of what to do, they could call him up and there's a certain number of hours a month they would get advice from him."

The town manager will now review the proposal, and if a police consultant is found suitable for the job, Moscowitz says he or she will start right away.
