SALISBURY, Md.- Wicomico County Board of Education member David Goslee Sr. has passed away.

The Sharptown native lost his battle with leukemia on Monday night. He was 78.

He was elected to serve District 3 this past November. He beat incumbent candidate Bill Turner by a single vote after a recount

“In his short time with the board, Mr. Goslee showed a true passion for seeing both our students and the school system excel in all areas. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family at this time," said Wicomico County Board of Education Chairman Don Fitzgerald.

Goslee had a long history with Maryland law enforcement and corrections before retiring in 1998.

Wicomico County Public Schools officials said a board of elections committee will temporarily fill Goslee's position moving forward.
