Dewey Beach Eyes Revenue Increase

Posted: Updated:

DEWEY BEACH, Del.- Dewey Beach is looking to boost revenue, potentially in the form of a lodging tax.

The town's budget and finance committee met Friday to brainstorm idea. One idea being discussed at the town council meeting this weekend is adding a tax on hotels.

Mayor T.J. Redefer says he's not for or against any new tax. He says at the moment, it's important to bring stakeholders together and look for creative ways to pay for long-neglected projects.

"If we are going to develop revenue streams, we could do things for infrastructure, we could do more for storm water management, and right now, we are doing everything we can to survive," Redefer said.

The budget committee is also looking for ways to better allocate existing funds and create cost-saving measures.
