Police: Serious Crime Down in Ocean Pines

Posted: Updated:

OCEAN PINES, Md.- A new police report in Ocean Pines, Md. confirms the community's pride in its safety record.

During the last year, service calls to the police department were up by 10%, according to the report. Traffic stops were up by 13.8%, but a newly released annual report from the police department reveals there was less serious crime and fewer traffic accidents in the town.

Denise Sawyer, marketing and public relations director of the Ocean Pines Association, credits a proactive and reactive community.

"A lot of residents are very engaged in what's going on," Sawyer said. "I like to think of them as nosy neighbors, people who are not afraid of contacting police with suspicious activities."

The police department says 2018 was still a very busy year for it. The report says it also had a higher number of burglaries to respond to, many of which ended in an arrest and items being recovered.
