Princess Anne Revitalization Efforts Could See Boost

PRINCESS ANNE, Md. - Revitalization efforts have been underway for years in Princess Anne, and those efforts could now see a financial boost.

"If you want new businesses in town, you have to show those businesses that you're bringing the foot traffic, and that people have reasons to visit Princess Anne," said Carrie Samis, manager of Main Street Princess Anne.

Main Street Princess Anne, a local non-profit group focused on improving the downtown area, has applied to become a "Keep America Beautiful" affiliate. 

According to the national organization's website, their mission is to inspire and educate people to improve and beautify their communities.

Samis said the partnership would provide the town access to many resources, like education and grant funding, to help beautify and improve the downtown area.

Inside The Washington Inn and Tavern on Somerset Avenue, Amanda Green said any beautification effort is critical to attracting visitors and business.

"If you don't have that great first impression, and you're not used to a little historical town, you're going to think it's run-down, but it's not," said Green.

Samis said potential funding from Keep America Beautiful could be used to organize town clean-ups and buy new planters.

Samis said Main Street Princess Anne should receive notice of the grant award within the next few weeks.
