Millsboro Set to Demolish Two Properties Near the Downtown Area

MILLSBORO, Del.- The town of Millsboro is gearing up for big changes.

Millsboro has now officially acquired a former auto shop right on the east entrance to the town. Town Manager Sheldon Hudson says this is part of their revitalization efforts.

"It's really going to help make our gateway to the town a lot more attractive," says Hudson. "(The building) has been idle for about six months but, it has been here for decades, so it's definitely an icon for anybody coming into Millsboro. It's going to be a dramatic shift."

Hudson says the plan is to demolish the structure along with a two-story building next to it. In its place, Millsboro hopes to build possibly a new civic center.

"We are hoping to see some sort of new civic building possibly maybe a new town center along with some parking and some green space," says Hudson.

The possibility of a new town hall could mean good news for the police station.

"One of the things we're considering is to move the police department to our current town hall. It'd be like killing two birds with one stone," says Hudson.

Millsboro Police Chief Brian Calloway says the station is in need of an expansion and the location of the current town center would be a good change.

"When I first started here we had nine police officers now we have 16 sworn officers, the department has grown," says Calloway. "Often times to deploy from this location we have restrictions. Even if we use our sirens that can still slow us down."

But regardless of what ultimately is built in the location, the town is moving forward with demolition plans.

"We have officially started the bidding process for the project," says Hudson. "In the following months people should start seeing the change."
