Governor Larry Hogan: 2020 Presidential Candidate?

Posted: Updated:

MARYLAND - Is Governor Larry Hogan considering a presidential run in the upcoming 2020 election?

During an interview with CBS This Morning on Wednesday, the Maryland republican said he is not taking the possibility off the table just yet.

"I was just sworn in a month ago for my second term and I've got a lot of work to do in Maryland. I would say I'm being approached from a lot of different people and I guess the best way to put it is, I haven't thrown them out of my office," Hogan told CBS.

Vice President of the Wicomico Republican Central Committee Muir Boda says while it may be difficult to do, he will support Hogan's decision.

"I think it's very difficult, in either party, to challenge a sitting president. So I think first, he's very pragmatic, he's very aware of that and he's not going to jump into a race," Boda said.

CBS Political Correspondent Ed O'Keefe conducted the interview with Hogan and offered WBOC his opinions on what it would take for the governor to run.

"He would have to devote essentially every waking moment of his life over the next year to build up his name identification, raise money and somehow convince enough republican voters to at least give him a shot," O'Keefe said.

But O'Keefe and Boda agree that the special investigation could change things for the republican party.

"I think what he's essentially just trying to say is look, if something goes terribly wrong for this president over the next few months, I'm an option if republicans have to find somebody else to be their nominee," O'Keefe said.

But at this point it looks like Hogan will wait to see what happens in the coming months before making any decision.
